Product Photography is a digital representation of a product,

Every photo is unique and each photographer has their own artistic vision. But there are some requirements that make a product photo look better.
As a San Diego product photographer, I want to share some tips on how to enhance your product photography.

  1. Adjust F-stop to make sure the subject is sharp and properly focused.

In product photography having properly focused images is crucial. It doesn't mean that you should forget about shallow depth of field, but you want to make sure that your main subject isn't blurry. Of course, you can have some parts of your subject out of focus, but at the same time, you must have the main parts to be crisp.
It is better to experiment with different aperture settings to see what F 2.0 or F 11.0 can do to your images.

  2. Have a proper white balance.

It is another important thing to keep in mind, that white balance has to be perfect in product photography. And since product photography is mostly a controlled set up I advise having manual white balance settings. Especially when you're shooting product images with a white background, you want to make sure that white looks white without any distractive tint. Also, it is very helpful to have a grey card. It helps to manually set up a perfect white balance. You can buy it from here: White Balance Card on Amazon
And here is a tutorial on how you can use it: "How to set white balance"

  3. Learn the composition.

Composition is key to making your photos look professional. There are lots of different compositional rules and tricks on how to make the subject in your photo stand out. If your photography journey just started, you can begin with the "rule of thirds" and basic color theory. It will make your work better and more interesting. 4. Work with light.

Word photography means drawing with light. It is a must-have for photographers to know how to work with different types of light and how to handle difficult lighting situations. To have better product photography you need to know how to use natural light, how to use on-camera and off-camera flashlights, and how to properly balance it. With a great understanding of light, your photography game will definitely become better.

  5. Train your eye with inspiration.

For a creative person, your daily practice should contain scrolling other resources for inspiration. You should search for related posts on Pinterest, and follow other photographers on Instagram. When you learn basic rules of composition, start watching movies and you'll see how popular directors and filmmakers use and apply the same principles. But also don't forget to see moments when they violate those rules and get an even better result, because in order to become a pro, you should learn rules, and in order to become great, you should learn how to break rules.

I hope you find these tips useful. Have a wonderful journey, your photography is going to be great!
